Overview

QuizWiz was a live quiz game by Telenor Pakistan. At we.R.play, I worked on character illustration and visual assets across the game, from early concept exploration to illustrations adapted for the final visual direction.

My work included designing Quiz McCat, an original tutorial character, developing animal-inspired avatar concepts, and creating illustrations for tutorial and success screens. As the app's visual direction evolved, I adapted my illustrations to the updated colour scheme and carried the established visual language across different parts of the experience.

I worked on the game's illustration and character art, adapting the visual style across in-game assets as the design evolved. The interface and backgrounds were designed by others; my role was to develop illustrations that complemented the existing design direction.

SCOPE: Character design, illustration, visual development, tutorial illustrations, success screen graphics, supporting in-game illustrations, and avatar concepts.

Creating Quiz McCat

Quiz McCat was an original character I designed to guide players through the tutorial. Dressed in a suit and neon sunglasses, the character brought personality to the game while helping players understand its mechanics.

The Character in Context

I developed multiple poses to support different tutorial moments, including welcoming players, pointing out interface elements, and explaining how to play. The character was incorporated into the final dark-mode tutorial, where its gestures and dialogue helped introduce key game information.

Success Screen Illustrations

I also created illustrations for the game's success screens, extending the neon visual language into celebratory moments. The designs used glowing lettering, stars, and colourful graphic elements to give the different success states a distinctive visual treatment.
Neon styled quiz summary screen with Hindi phrase 'KOI NAHI, PHIR SAHI...' surrounded by colorful geometric shapes, showing score calculation: Correct: 1x2 + 2x3 + 4x1 = +12, Incorrect: 2x-3 + 3x1 = -3, Total = +9 in bold yellow text, with encouragement message and a glowing pink button labeled 'Next' on a dark background with geometric line patterns.

Supporting Illustrations

Alongside the tutorial and success screens, I created supporting graphics for other parts of the game, including verification screen and invitation illustrations.

Developing the Illustration Style

The project explored a neon-inspired visual language built around dark backgrounds, vivid cyan and magenta, bright yellow accents, and illuminated outlines. I applied these elements to my illustrations so they felt connected to the game's wider visual direction.

As the design evolved, I revisited and adapted the artwork to fit the updated colour scheme. This meant carrying the illustration style through different assets while accommodating changes to the overall visual treatment of the app.

Exploring Character Avatars

Character exploration was another part of the project. I developed seven original animal-inspired avatar concepts, using circular compositions, expressive silhouettes, and the game's bright neon palette to explore a character-based direction for player avatars.

The production team ultimately selected national landmarks instead, so the animal concepts were not included in the live game. They remain an important part of the project's exploration and demonstrate another direction I developed for the experience.

Reflection

QuizWiz gave me the opportunity to develop original character work and illustrations for a live game while adapting to an evolving visual direction. From early concept exploration to the final tutorial and success-screen artwork, my contribution focused on carrying a cohesive illustration language across different parts of the experience.
